Blood
Cardiovascular system
Functions of blood- distribution of nutrients oxygen and carries waste products like CO2, lactic acid and
hormones. Regulation- temp, regulate pH, maintain hydration protection- clotting factors,
immune response
Blood anatomy
Temp= 100.7 pH= 7.35-7.45 connective tissue 8% body weight
Hematocrit packed cell volume males= 40-54% females= 36-48%
Blood = plasma+ formed elements (cells)
Blood plasma= liquid (serum) + clotting factors 90% water 8% proteins (albumin) 2% electrolytes (Na,
K, Ca, Cl) and waste (urea, uric acid)
Formed elements
Red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets
Hematopoiesis- blood cell formation occurs in the bone marrow red bone marrow in adults is
located in the heads of long bones
