The Joy Luck Club is a movie that was based upon four women Lindo, An-Mei, Ying
Ying, and Suyuan who share similar cultures who came to America seeking a better life (The Joy
Luck Club, 1993). The women meet each other from church, then they formed a group that met
and played Ma Jiang and talked about the hopes and dreams for their daughters. The women had
four daughters named June, Rose, Waverly, and Lena whom the mothers had great expectations
for. The movie started with a metaphor narrated by Suyan’s daughter June, about a swan feather
that ultimately shapes the lives of four women and the hopes for their daughters to have joy and
luck while being Americanized women. The movie was full of emotion, drama and provided a
clear social psychological view of the social world in those times. The four women all tried to
mold their daughters to fit the social norms of American life in hopes of them having a happier
life that they never had in China. The lives of the women and their daughters all revolve around a
