Restaurant and Transportation Machine.
English is a quite different language from Chinese. There are many polysemous words in
English but less in Chinese. I have made lots of jokes because of polysemous words when
I talk with others.
One joke happened one year ago. I was living in Beijing during the summer holiday. I was
waiting for my friend in the railway station. When I was standing there, a foreign young
man came towards me and asked me where the “Subway” is. I thought the subway he
meant is the transportation machine, so I told them the location of the subway station. I felt
happy because of helping others, so I told my friend that things when he was arrived.
Unfortunately, my friend laughed at me immediately after I told him and I realized my
mistakes. The subway he asked was the fast food restaurant!
After making this big mistake, I became careful about polysemous words in English. Until
now, I have learned a lot of this kind of words in order to avoid the same mistake again.
