With my new identity I know that Indian women were seen as “slaves” to the men
because it was the man’s job to provide for the family while the women stayed home and took
care of the family home and the tribe’s children. They were also seen as mothers to all the
children of the tribes’. There are many stereotypes associated with American Indian women, the
most popular is the Indian Princess (Princess Squaw). She is portrayed as the most beautiful
native women is deeply infatuated with a white man, that she without a doubt willing to give up
her cultural beliefs and heritage and marry into the “civilized” white culture. The Indian Princess
was never portrayed as the powerful character, instead she is always revealed as gullible, naïve
