I feel that this class will be interesting because we talked about a lot of new technology
that has changed the world so quickly. Companies need information technology for business
advantage. In the class, we mentioned that companies require knowledge to solve the business
problems. Based on my previous working experience, I was working in a merchant service
company. Technical support plays an important role in customer service, customers call in and
ask every step of credit card processing and how to use the machine. Then the technical support
will tell them by phone and they can control the machine easily and quickly. Nowadays company
prefer to hire the people who can literate technology to contribute to the company. They know
how to preserve and obtain data and define information needs.
Then we also talked about competitive advantage, especially the first-mover advantage
that a company can impact or stand out among the market share. What attract me the most is four
types of competitive advantage. They are the SWOT analysis, Porter’s five forces model,
Porter’s three generic strategies and Value chain analysis. In the class, we did the analysis based
on milk to evaluate its Porter’s five forces which is very interesting. Basically, I have an idea of
what this kind of analysis means and will use it later which is very useful.
