I am a martial arts instructor at a karate/ kickboxing school. However I feel the instructors
do not get paid enough because of all the experience needed for the job.
Martial arts schools have always been around but latley you can find one in almost any
plaza. So what separates one from the rest. The answer is great instructors. The only way
to have a great instructor is if he or she is already a black belt that has trained for many
years. On average at my school it takes about 6 years to get you blackbelt. That takes long
then a masters degree. Plus on top of that to learn exactly how to teach what you already
know effectively. Which takes a few years as well. In total it takes about 8 years of
experience in order to become a great instructor. Which means once you have them they
are at great value. So shouldn’t they be paid a great value? Plus, its not like you can just
hire anyone for this position like they can be flipping burgers. Amazingly, Instructor with
this much experience and more get paid almost as much! The problem here is that the
employees have great value to the business but are not getting paid what they are worth. let
me put it to you this way, if you own a karate school, do you hire someone with a phd out
of harvard, or someone with a blackbelt. Who has more value to you as the owner?
The employees are deserving of a higher pay. Their experience is not something everyone
has. We all know how low supply and high demand works. Instructors should be payed
more based on experience.
