Job analysis is the umbrella term for a procedure used to obtain various information about
specific positions that can lead to various organizational benefits such as defining essential
functions and implementing comparative pay. Gathered information could be a detailed or
overarching task list that is accomplished at the position, or it could refer to the skills that are
needed by a candidate to possess in order to be successful at the listed job. It is a vital step for
most organizations as job analysis often functions as the foundation for most human resource
management systems including defining essential functions and assigning comparable worth
(Spector, 2012) and it is the role of an I/O psychologist to first develop an efficient, successful
job analysis before implementing the means necessary to gather the information needed. In this
paper, we will be examining three articles that discuss a few of the more prominent issues when
