SUBJECT: Developing a new compensation structure for streaming services
As the HR Director of BT Music, I was recently presented with an issue where our label
artists believe there is an unfair compensation structure off stream services such as Apple Music,
Tidal, Spotify. After some diligent research I believe the pay structure of these stream services
are outdated. Music streaming has become the number 1 consumption form of music, and the
number of streamers are growing by the day. I plan to write a recommendation report that ought
to encourage streaming services to restructure their compensation system.
As mentioned above, music streaming has become the primary consumption method for
music. Spotify revolutionized the music industry when it was first founded in 2008 in
Stockholm, Sweden. In 2011 it was then approved to operate in the United States, Spotify’s goal
