Jim Dine: The Hammer [diptych], 1982
Jim Dine is a well-appreciated American artist. His skills are not limited to painting as he
is also a graphic artist, sculptor, and poet. Dine’s works combine the painted canvas with
ordinary objects of daily life.
Dine was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on June 16, 1935. He went to University of Cincinnati
where he studied poetry. He further went to Ohio University to get his BFA (Bachelors in Fine
Arts). His parents being second-generation immigrants from Eastern Europe and practicing Jews,
