Why Athletes are Role Models
This iconic image portraits that Jesse Owens is determined to win the race. It takes a high
tolerance for pain from pushing your body to its limits to achieve the goal. An athlete has
to be committed to the sport and give up various things such as their hobbies and other
interests. They have to be better than what they were yesterday and possess a deep need to
always improve, taking their performance to the next level. Athletes should be committed
to be the best and should view obstacles as challenges to overcome. Taking risks and
pushing to their comfort zone is part of the champion mindset. The effects of this iconic
image is that the athlete is focused and confident to win the event.
To start off, an athlete cannot taste success unless they are focused enough to work hard.
High concentration is required to perfect techniques and implement them. A committed
athlete devotes a great deal of time to practice. An athlete is a modeled player, a
perfectionist to be encouraged, and a student to be taught. They arrive early in order to get
in a better warm-up, give more than their best effort during practice, and stay after practice
to work on more exercises. The reason they are so consistent is that they have a mental
picture of what they want, why they want and how to move closer to their target. An
athlete should be mentally focused to reach peak performance.
In addition, an athlete has to have the trait of being confident in order to achieve their goal.
