After completing my version of the Communication Competence Survey (CCS), I figured
out that I perceive myself as a highly competent communicator. I scored a total of 143, which is
considered fairly high on the scale. I saw a consistency with my answers on the survey, with
most of the questions being answered with a 4 (agree). Questions related with empathy, listening
skills, and self-monitoring, however, were mainly answered with 5s (strongly agree). There were
a few areas where I saw myself giving lower scores to than others, such as questions relating to
self-disclosure and expressiveness.
Being a competent communicator comprises of appropriate, effective, and ethical
communication skills (page 21). According to my daily interactions, I believe I consistently
communicate in those manners in my everyday life. Certain characteristics such as easily
