JAIL
The role and function of jail in this modern day is to temporarily detain those who are
suspected or convicted of a crime. It is a correctional facility used for the short-term, usually to
hold those awaiting trial or to hold those convicted of low-level offenses that have sentences of
one year or less. According to Prison.laws “The concept of a penal colony or jail can date as far
back to around 400 B.C. in Jerusalem, where dungeons were used to hold prisoners that were
incarcerated for committing crimes.” It was a system already implemented in the past, but the
later generation made it better. The jail over crowing today has nothing to do with how jails were
used in the past versus how it is used now. The size of people increase over time which causes
more crimes to happen and more people end up in the system. In the old days there were not as
many people in The United States of America as there are today. So that increase in population
