You are faced with the problem of pleasing the sales organization without ignoring company
policy. The head of the sales organization is asking for iPhones instead of the new notebook computers
they were getting. The problem with switching from notebook computers to iPhones is that iPhones
could cause a security breach if the sales organization downloads miscellaneous apps from the app
store. It also means that IT services have to work on a new project of making the apps that they have
compatible with the iPhone IOS system.
One recommendation is to go ahead and get everyone iPhones but make sure they use it as just
a work phone. If people download apps that don’t have to do with the company, there will be
consequences. Since the CEO emailed you and stated that iPhones are the cheaper option, if you are
able to do this it would end up saving the company some money. But express to the CEO if you were to
do this, you would have to put certain projects to the side to make sure that the apps needed to work
are compatible with the iPhones IOS system.
Another recommendation would be to stick with the notebook computers. Express to the sales
organization head that the security on the iPhones isn’t secure enough to give everyone in sales a phone
and potentially put the company at risk. Express that once iPhones come out with more security or a
way to make it just a business phone then maybe you can make the switch to iPhones but until then the
notebook computers are the companies safest option.
