Coming from a socially deprived and emotionally abused background, I have always
lived up to the saying “It’s not the quantity of friends, but the quality”. Well, if I want to
progress and develop a stronger career pathway, this quote might not always be something to live
up to. More recently, because of my ego and pride, my career has been more difficult to
manage; in part, because of how I first got started.
My career as a clinical research associate started when I was discovered by a small
clinical research organization. At that time, it would have been nearly impossible to get hired by
any other CRO. Fortunately, this small CRO gave me the hands-on experience that I needed to
be able to pivot myself into this industry. However, this small CRO was my first insight on the
toxic culture of the industry. It set the precedent for how I was going to ‘manage’ myself and
depend on myself, because of the complete lack of support and management.
