It’s Hard to Change McDonald’s System
McDonald’s is a one largest restaurants in the word. McDonald’s have 14,000 location in
U.S. and 36,000 globally. Because this company really huge they try to keep all Mc
restaurants standard to each other. The system it’s the main problem in this company, they
wants guarantees all the food serve same quality on all locations like they want French
fries same size everywhere and cooked exactly the same amount of time and the burgers
will be the same thickness and have the same taste.
McDonald’s it doesn’t work with feeling, or experiences. It work with test market to see if
these tests success or not.
Don Thomas he leaved McDonald’s after he worked for a quarter of century. Before he
leave he try to make some changes with the system, and he try to make McDonald’s more
relevant to U.S. eater. He develop a simple chicken wrap. The main reason for making this
changes because other restaurants start serving healthier food like Chipotle, Subway, Five
Guys. This cause the younger customers like more other healthier restaurant.
After that sales dropped, Thompson tried to make some adjustments to the system. He
want the customers try to choose their own topping for the burgers and try to make the
food more relevant for the customers. They start this new idea in California where the test
was under way.
Also in April 2013, McDonald’s start serving in some restaurant undisclosed what the
customers ask for all-day breakfast. A year later Taco Bill started serving breakfast after
that the McDonald’s system doesn’t handle it.
