Introduction
Problem Statement1
Tasteful Fashion is a small brick-and-mortar store that specializes in designer shoes,
clothing, and handbags. Currently, the company is struggling with reaching out to customers like
their other competitors do because they have very little online presence. As of now, the store
only has a website which is very basic as it only lists a few products that Tasteful Fashion offers.
There is no was to purchase these products online, they can only be purchased in the store.
Ultimately, the owner of Tasteful Fashion wants to integrate an online presence to their business
to promote growth and become more customer-oriented.
Two Technologies
Wireless, mobile computing, and mobile commerce, as well as business analytics and
business intelligence solutions, are two technologies that can greatly benefit Tasteful Fashion.
Wireless, mobile computing, and mobile commerce focus on reaching out to customers
externally, creating an online shopping platform, online payment processing, inventory
management, shipping, internal collaboration with employees, and much more. Wireless devices
such as smartphones, tablets, laptops, and other handheld devices allow people to collect data
and information and shop online easier and more conveniently Wireless mobile computing has
greatly improved efficiency as it has allowed organizations to streamline processes, accelerate
transaction time, and improve operations. The use of a smartphone or tablet amongst employees,
for example, can help them stay updated by providing reports such as real-time inventory
management, order fulfillment, and shipping. This has lead to better customer experience and
satisfaction and a rise in profits. Mobile commerce has allowed businesses to expand their reach

to existing and new customers as it enables people to buy/sell products and services from almost
anywhere using a mobile device such as a smartphone, tablet, or smartwatch. It has enabled
businesses to engage with their customers both inside and outside of the store giving them a
richer experience.
Business analytics and business intelligence go hand in hand and their goal is to increase
the efficiency and viability of a company. Business intelligence is a technology-driven process
that gathers various pieces of data making it ready for analysis. Business analytics is about
examining this data to extract meaningful insights which can be used to improve business.
Essentially it is about transforming data into information, turning this information into
knowledge, and finally turning the knowledge into some form of value. Nowadays consumer
demands have escalated and BI/BA is needed in order to understand the needs of these
consumers to improve both the buying and selling experiences. BI tools can be used to generate
reports that show customer trends, preferences, location, etc. This data not only gives the
company insight on how well a product is doing in the market or what the popular consumer
demands are, but it allows companies to track customer patterns which can be used for smart
advertising. Businesses can promote different offers and schemes based off of these patterns such
as BOGO deals or by advertising different similar products based off of the customers recent
searches.
Business Requirements
Objectives
The objective of this project is to understand what technology should be integrated to
help accomplish the business owners goals of promoting growth through an online presence
while being more customer-focused. The integration of wireless, mobile computing, and mobile

commerce, and business analytics and business intelligence solutions should provide a solution
to Tasteful Fashion’s current business issue of not being able to reach out to their customers as
their competitors do. These technologies supply the company with an online shopping platform
across multiple devices, inventory availability and management, internal/external collaboration
among employees and customers, online payment processing, order processing and shipping
platform, customer trend charts and reports, and consumer information processing and
management. The technologies also allow the continuity of the current brick and mortar
processes, but with improvisations. This project supports the goal of the business because these
two technologies enable Tasteful Fashion to reach a broader customer base while simultaneously
keeping up with customer demands and trends. Therefore, Tasteful Fashion will be able to
provide customers with a comparable e-commerce experience that meets their needs and
demands.
Project Description
Tasteful Fashion needs to improve and expand on their basic website to enable the
integration of an online shopping platform. The website needs to incorporate an easy to use and
navigate template in which customers can browse for products online across multiple devices
such as laptops, smartphones, and tablets. It also needs to be able to process online payments,
create online customer accounts, provide order status, and provide shipping status/tracking. The
business can accomplish this by hiring a website developer or using website building software.
The company also needs to incorporate business analytics and business intelligence solutions
software. BI tools will collect and generate data on the customers such as feedback, patterns, and
trends in the form of charts and graphs. Business analytics will then process and analyze the data
that the BI tools generated and turn them into actionable insights. With proper analyzation of

these trends, the business will be able to offer different schemes, discounts, advertising methods,
and predict future trends. Tasteful Fashion’s employees should have handheld devices which
they can use to track real-time information about and for customers such as inventory updates,
shipping and order status, and more.
The desired result at the end of this project is the establish a strong online presence where
customers can shop conveniently online across multiple devices. It is also desired that we
become more customer-focused, building a strong understanding of individual preferences. With
this information, the business can create strategies that focus more on individuals, creating for
better customer experience and higher satisfaction rates. It is important that the business owner
of Tasteful Fashion considers implementing these new technologies because they will greatly
improve the companies growth. We are living in the age of technology, and consumer demands
