Response to Question #4 What Makes Good Good?
Being good is the best part about being good. In my mind, I relate goodness with honesty
and integrity to help myself understand it best. I believe honesty is its own reward and one has to
be honest not only to other people but also honest with him/herself. In this same regard,
goodness is also its own reward and one not only has to be good to others but also do the right
thing when no one is watching. This is why I think in the example given in the prompt, the uncle
is not really a good person because he is doing fraud. I think goodness does have intrinsic value
and that being a good person in your actions but not your intentions does not allow one to be
‘good’. When one is doing bad things in the shadows but good things in front of others they will
definitely hold guilt, which is unjust. This type of behavior is not sustainable, because every
person who holds guilt will eventually break and be exposed. Any sort of behavior that is not
sustainable is unjust. I believe that if one feels like they are not doing the right thing then they
are being unjust. The perfect just human being would be one that always does exactly what they
