Animal Experimentation in the Medical Field
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) reported that 820,812 animals
were used in experiments at USDA-registered facilities in the United States in 2016. This
number only includes animals protected by the Animal Welfare Act (AWA) and does not include
amphibians, birds, fish, mice, rats, and reptiles, all of which account for the majority of animals
used in scientific studies (“Animal Experimentation,” 2018). Animal experimentation has
contributed to a lot of advancements in medications and treatments in the medical history.
Although animal testing helps medical field to advance in treatments and medications, it takes
thousands of innocent animals’ lives to achieve success, and sometimes after taking their lives,
there is no success in the experiment.
