Is college worth it?
College is worth the money that you spend depending on the major that you chose to
study. The four years that you may go through if you decide to finish can be different for
everybody. Weekend experiences are all the same but during the week and throughout the
different classes, everybody learns completely different topics. The chance that students
graduating with a certain degree actually graduate and acquire a job that relates to that certain
degree are often low. Obviously nurses become nurses and teachers become teachers but what
about majors like criminology and art of some kind.
If a student goes to school undecided and stays with that group for their whole first year,
they just spent a large amount of money to remain unsure about a future career and most likely
be pushed into something that they tried out and think that they might like. Lexi Lieberman from
study breaks writes that at least 75% of students change their major before graduating. I am
part of that 75%. If classes are roughly $3,000 each, then I have just spent $6,000 on classes
that do not help me in receiving my new finance degree. If I had changed my major any later,
there would be even more money spent on an education that I did not even need after the
switch. If you are attending school, it is worth it if there is a concrete plan on what you want to
do and what you want to graduate with. Although most students do not realize the cost of each
class and the amount of money they are spending.
