2. Using your own words, explain the meaning of “cultural gaps” and describe two
culturally sustaining practices teachers can use to address them.
Cultural gaps is any major difference in the worlds view, attitudes, and expectations
between racially and ethnically diverse students and teachers. Teachers be can open
with students about the differences in school practices and expectations in that
community or home and they can incorporate the cultures of the students in their
classroom.
3. Identify three of the six key principles of classroom behavior management outlined in
the module and offer specific example of how a teacher might use each of them in the
classroom.
Planing Early – teachers should always plan ahead so they can be prepared on how
they will handle students behavior. Teachers can also look at their students records
before the year begins so they can figure out how they’ll be able to help that student
when they misbehave.
Understand Student Diversity – teachers can look at the students records and imply
that students culture in lessons or read books about their culture, so that their students
can feel involved and feel like they can be heard.
Focus On The Positive – teachers can give out rewards to the classroom and to the
students who behave well, this will keep a positive behavior in the classroom since
the teacher will be rewarding them they will know that if they’re good then the
teacher will give them a reward
