Invictus
Invictus is a film that narrates the efforts and strategies of
Nelson Mandela and Francois Pienaar to unite the South African
people after it was separated by Apartheid.
At the beginning of Invictus, Nelson Mandela is elected as
President of South Africa, a country still divided by racist and
divisive thoughts between whites and blacks. In addition to
these racial divisions, Mandela also faces a country submerged
in criminality and economic crisis.
After analyzing the situation of the country, we see that
Mandela concludes that the root of all the problems of the
country is the profound psychological division in which South
Africa is immersed. Because of this, he decides that one way to
unite his people is through sport.
Nelson Mandela
At this point we see that Mandela highlights some of the most
important characteristics of transformational leadership.
Mandela had the ability to identify the problem presented by
his people, and decided that one of the best strategies to unite
the population was through sport (inspiration), and ultimately
he achieved in large part to execute the change that South
Africa needed.
We could say that for Nelson Mandela, the essence of
leadership rests on a leader's ability to inspire his followers to
be an example in different social and personal spheres. In
addition to being able to effectively identify problems, and to

propose strategies to change through motivation, example and
inspiration.
Thanks to this film, in addition to the information gained
through research, we can affirm that Nelson Mandela was and
will be one of the best leaders that society has ever known.
Beyond proposing motivational and transformational strategies
with the purpose of banishing the conflict in their country from
the deepest, and guiding the perception of the followers
towards more positive, inspirational, and effective perspectives;
Mandela was an example of ethical leadership, where every
aspect of his life reflected his position and values. He was a
leader who decided to lead by example and not by imposition.
