Imagine if we chose not to explore the cosmos and ignore the fact that one of
Pluto’s moons could be a frozen ocean that may have had life once. Should we ignore this
incredible potential discovery? Is that what were doing in the 21st century when we could
take advantage with all of the technology we have now? “I am convinced that if NASA
were to disappear tomorrow, if we never put up another Hubble Space Telescope, never
put another human being in space, people in this country would be profoundly distraught.
Americans would feel that we had lost something that matters, that our best days were
behind us…..” (“The Real Reasons We Should Explore Space”) If we continue to explore
space our nation would benefit for so many reasons.
Economically, funding the space program would not only increase jobs but it
would improve technology. For instance, according to “Be an Astronaut: NASA Seeks
Explorers for Future Space Missions” it states that, “From pilots and engineers, to
scientists and medical doctors, NASA selects qualified astronaut candidates from a
diverse pool of U.S. citizens with a wide variety of backgrounds. Those selected for this
service will fly on U.S. made spacecraft from American soil, advance critical science and
research aboard the International Space Station, and help push the boundaries of
