Interview A Manager For Management Skills:
As a manager, do you always implement all the management functions? (planning,
organizing and staffing, leading and controlling)
As setting up performance standards, which kind of staff do you have higher
expectation, the good ones or the weak ones? Why?
In working process, do you usually make comments on your staffs working
efficiency, both positive and negative?
To perfectly complete your mission, is this necessary to connect with other
Departments or join some education programs?
What do you do when you receive complaints from your subjects?
Q: As a manager, do you always implement all the management functions? (planning,
organizing and staffing, leading and controlling)
A: Of course, all the functions are necessary. Different subjects need different way of
working. Planning is the first action of every inspection. Organizing and staffing in this
case mainly mean assigning tasks to the suitable staffs. Finally, leading and controlling
could not be missed when you works as a manager.
In fact, Bank Inspector is a job that tends to follow the international rules. Working as
Chief Bank Inspector in the past, I also needed to learn about the basic knowledge of
management. I can tell that management has only been focused on since 1986. Before that
point, in Vietnam, management is not such an important action.
C: This is an overview question that provide general information about the real situation of
management in Vietnam, especially in banking system. The answer shows that even
though we have the different economic system, the basic rules of management are still
applied in some parts of the whole system. To achieve goals, managers over the world do
almost the same regardless of their particular jobs. However, in State own enterprises and
organizations, management is only carried out in a low level. Managing actions are simple
and, maybe, in the same routine.
Q: As setting up performance standards, which kind of staff do you have higher
expectation, the good ones or the weak ones? Why?
A: Obviously, the good staffs should have higher performance standards. If the good ones
find that their tasks are too easy in comparison with their abilities, they will be lazy.
Similarly, if the weak staffs could not finish their tasks smoothly, they will lose their
enthusiasm. Moreover, those things are just labor problems. The worst result is that the
