Abstract
This paper explores the similarities and differences of secular and Christian counseling
specifically the four distinctives that make Christian counseling unique. This paper examines Dr.
Ohlschlager and Dr. Clinton’s research in relation to effective Christian counseling and describes
how Christian counselors actively invite God to be at the core of the helping endeavor
(Ohlschlager and Clinton, 2002). Other articles are also examined to provide more thorough and
effective support documentation such as articles found in the Journal of Counseling Psychology
