Research Report: Friendships
Interpersonal communication is the process in which people express themselves to others.
People express their feelings and emotions and information about themselves through either ver-
bal or non-verbal messages. However, with the changing times, interpersonal communication is
no longer solely face-to-facecommunication. Now with technology becoming a mediated
mode of communication, researchers have to learn how friendships are kept and maintained
through these new modes of communication, and still through the traditional modes of communi
cation.
In the report, I am So Happy Cause My Friend is Happy for Me: Capitalization, Friend-
ship and Happiness Among U.S. and Turkish College Students, two researchers from Northern
Arizona University and one researcher from Ege Univeristy in Turkey, compared the friendships
and happiness between college students. In this report the researchers delve into the topic of cap-
italization. In the study of communications, capitalization is the happiness one gains from the
