I was lucky enough to intern with North Carolina Central University’s Internal Audit
Department. My host supervisor was Robert Gaines but I mostly met with Earl Jackson while I
was there. I was debating on taking the class/internship because I thought it was going to be
more of a desk job dealing with filing papers and such. It was nothing like that. Mr. Jackson
promised me on day one that I was not going to be filing papers and making copies. He told me I
was going to be doing the same thing they do such as doing work papers, conducting/attending
meetings, making phone calls and writing final reports. He explained to me the process of how
they receive audits. They either receive them from the University itself or they would get one
