The dark web is mainly a place for illegal businesses and content, however, it is different
from the deep web, along with a lot more dangerous. The deep web is just basic information that
you can’t find on the normal surface web or just basically searched through any search engine,
ex: Google. Chayko had a very good grasp on what the dark web is and only skimmed the
surface of what you can find on there. The dark web is full of many dangers and myths all with
stories behind them, whether or not they’re easily credible because they still serve a purpose of a
warning when it comes to searching on the dark web.
First, we’re going to discuss what the deep web is and give an example. It’s not
too in-depth because it’s pretty understanding what the deep web is. The deep web only consists
of stuff that isn’t found through any type of search engine. This means that you need a direct link
to the website or you click something on a website that will bring you to another. Take
something like the Florida Medical License Database. You need the direct link or go to the
Florida website and dig around
until you find the “click here”
type link on one of their pages.
This is not readily searchable
from Google or Bing. When

link that you click, and it brings you directly to the database. This can also include websites like
Netflix or Hulu because my list of shows or movies I want to watch is not going to be the same
as my friend’s. So, the link to my watchlist will be different and I cannot go to Google or Bing
and look it up.
When it comes to the dark web this is a website for illegal and illicit information.
Chayko only barely scratches the surface on the dark web. Chayko brings up points on that the
dark web is used for things like porn, even childporn, piracy, illegal drugs/weapons, and
terrorists. This is only the most basic use of the dark web, but lets start off discussing the access
of the dark web before we get into the full nitty-gritty information about the dark webs services,
stories, dangers, and myths. There are very specific ways on how to access the dark web and the
most favorite of them all to access it is Tor. Tor was an anonymous web browser created by the
U.S. Naval Academy. Tor is free to use and download. Tor keeps you anonymous, to a point, by
spoofing with your IP address
making you seem like you’re
located somewhere else. I say to
a point because there are
hackers out on the dark web and
if you’re not fast enough to
restart Tor for a new IP
address if you feel like you’re
being tracked, then that person
can have all of your
