On Tuesday evening, Steven and I went to Basil Thai restaurant near Purdue. Its theme is
Thai and there were lots of Asian students eating there. Every word in menu was English
and it had lots of traditional Thai dishes. Steven ordered a Pad Thai Chicken. He said it
tasted so good and he was curious about the side bean sprouts, since he rarely tried that
vegetable before. In fact, bean sprouts are very common in China. When my entre arrived,
I found that Thai food tended to contain special sources, such as peanut butter and curry,
while Chinese food was always made with soy source. On the other hand, because it is a
small restaurant and most waiters are local students, service is quite same as that in
American restaurant. For example, it requires tips that are not required by restaurants in
China. However, like Chinese restaurant, it allows multiple waiters to serve one table.
During the dinner, Steven told me that his favorite childhood food was macaroni and egg,
and pizza was very popular in his home region, Chicago. I told him that shredded pork
with garlic sauce was my favorite childhood food and popular food in my home region was
braised dish. Steven and I also discussed about our cultures. Steve said people in America
usually wore informal clothes such as sweaters and T-shirts and formal clothes would be
