Did the intro meet requirements?
Was attention device effective?
Was the thesis clearly stated?
AGD was good — she connected current events/people her audience
The personal story was good
Speech content: E G A F P (speaker did not fulfill assignment as she became VERY persuasive!!)
Did speech remain informative instead of persuasive?
Did speaker present topic in a way to “add to the common knowledge” of the audience?
Were sources quoted? Were statistics, etc. presented?
Transitions clearly stated?
Speaker becomes TOO persuasive — telling the audience to educate themselves and others does not meet the
requirements of this assignment….
Speaker gives a quote about 17% of the population having optimum mental health…but doesn’t tell us where she got this
information — always cite/state your sources!
The entire section on “offer support”, joining an organization, etc. is persuasive — this does NOT meet the assignment —-
remember don’t tell your audience to do/think anything or you haven’t remained informative. She could have talked about
“individuals who seek treatment do this or that –“ but remain objective

Did slides meet requirements? Did the visuals enhance the speech?
Did speaker effectively present the visuals? Were visuals incorporated appropriately into the speech?
While I typically don’t like text on slides the speaker’s slide with the “thesis” bullet points was nice
Several slides have way too much text — avoid this
The first AGD slide with the celebrities was nice for connecting with the audience — the rest of the slides were too
“wordy”…
The slide with the mind and mental illness examples was good

Did speaker utilize effective delivery techniques as discussed in class?
Eye contact? Lack of filler words? Vocal Variety? Stance? Gestures?
Was speaker dressed appropriately?
Online submissions require a TON of work— you have to ensure you have good lighting, QUIET surroundings and a large
screen for your audience to see your visual aid – since you will be turning in your power point — you can have the camera
OVERALL GRADE: This speech is a bit harder to grade. The student had WONDERFUL conversational style and she
had great vocal energy. She would have lost lots of points on her environment/lighting. The largest point deduction
would have been missing the focus of the assignment and becoming “persuasive”…
