Advice for Future Accountants
The report is on advice to help future managers succeed in accounting. The advice was
obtained through an interview with Mr. Usman Malik, accountant of IBM, office located in
California. Malik has background in accounting because it is a family career, and has 7 years of
experience in accounting. According to Malik, three key elements to being a successful
accountant include: skills employers look for when hiring new accountants, internship benefits,
avoiding the three big personal mistakes.
Skills Employers Seek
As an accountant, multiple skills are needed for the work at hand. Diverse skills help in the day
to day activities of the company. The more skills an accountant has the more successful they
will be in comparison to accountants who do not have a number of skills because they will be
able to do more tasks, which requires that specific skill.
Ethical commitment, attention to detail, communication, and business partnering skills are key
skills that employers want their employees to have. For example, if an employee was not
ethical the company would have short term and long term problems due to financial fudging of
