Advertising on the Web: options and trends
In the last decade the world of advertising has been completely turned upside down by
the rise of social media. In the days of Myspace and Friendster social media was not remotely
what it has become now. With the explosion of smart phones into the hands of the everyday
consumer, social media has become the new platform for staying up to speed. Many different
platforms exist for users to stay in touch with everything from Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat,
Instagram, Pinterest, GroupMe, LinkedIn, Google Plus and many more. The explosion of social
platforms has literally transformed the advertising industry as a whole. The guess work of what
consumers wanted to view was removed through the use of analytics. Now platforms can tell
sponsored content exactly the number of users who clicked a link or liked a page. The evolution
of web advertising has evolved over time to what is the standard today.
