Informafion Systems for Mangers Final Summary
Information technology and systems is crucial to the business field as many large
companies cannot operate without it. Having an understanding of the
components and procedures behind the scenes of operations is what makes a
well-rounded manager and employee. To have the knowledge of the topics
covered gives us an advantage when compared to individuals who have no
knowledge of information systems.
Module One (+20 Points)
What is the de0nifion of programming? (+2 Points
Programing is a set of instructions given to a computer program of inputs, outputs, order,
making decisions, repetition that tell a computer what to do
Programming is the translation of a system’s design specifications into computer code. (Rainer
p 316)
What is an example of programming? (+2 Points)
An example of programing is a virus. A virus is a program that can infect other programs or
data stored in a file and can destroy. Viruses can act as real websites and collect sensitive
information such as credit card numbers, social security numbers, bank information and so
forth. (Ebrahimi) p2
Why is programming important? (+2 Points)
1
Programming is important because it allows us to tell computers in code exactly the tasks
we want it to preform and having the ability to understand errors, reports, recovery of lost
data and fix problems makes you an asset to a company and you have less competition
What is the de0nifion of web source code? (+2 Points)
Web source code is what is shown on the web, what is behind the web (source code), and
what is placed on the server (database). (Ebrahimi) p.1 “The web page presents the
business enterprise to everyone.
What is an example of web source code? (+2 Points)
If you want to create your own web site you need to design it with web source code. It
dictates the layout of your website. To view a web source code you have to click on
view then source and the web source code will pop up for the website you are looking
at.
Why is web source code important? (+2 Points)
Web source code is important because a manager can update webpages in an instant in
order to keep up with competitors (Ebrahimi) p1.
What is the de0nifion of a technology crisis (Y2K Viruses or Spam)? (+2 Points)
The technology crisis was a time that there was an overabundance of programming, the
situations was escalated that even NATO was involved to help reduce the chaos. (Ebrahimi)
p.7.
What is an example of a technology crisis? (+2 Points)
An example of the technology crisis is the Y2K problem which was associated with the year
of 1900 changing to 2000 and computer programs not being able to distinguish the
di5erence between the two dates and this would cause programs to crash. Also many
2
managers lost their jobs because they did not “for see this issue” and programmers
stepped in and took over their positions while simultaneously repairing the programs
issues. (Ebrahimi) p.7
Why is technology crisis important? (+2 Points)
The technology crisis was important because it led to the creation of So8ware Engineering
paradigms.
What is your support and/or refute for the topics of programing, web source, and
technology crisis? (+2 points)
From reading chapter one of The Computer Boys take over by Nathan L. Ensmenger
further supports the importance of programming in the world from the 1950’s on and how
as time is progressing programming is becoming more and more important to managers
throughout the years because having the ability to understand errors, reports, recovery of
lost data and fix problems makes you an asset and you have less competition. From
reading James Royal-Lawson’s blog Source Code Survival for Web Managers “Well, simply
put, Its your job as someone in charge of a website to make sure its running smoothly,
delivering on business goals, and fits nicely into the internet at large.” Supports the
importance of understanding what you are in charge of and learning how to fix the liAle
things that are not working on a website.
Module Two (+20 Points)
What is the de0nifion of an informafion system? (+2 Points)
Information system (IS) is a process that collects, processes, stores, analyzes. And
disseminates information for a specific purpose; most IS’s are computerized. (Rainer p 6)
What is an example of an informafion system? (+2 Points)
An example of an information system is
3
Why are informafion systems important? (+2 Points)
Information systems are important because
What is the de0nifion of digital economy/e-commerce? (+2 Points)
Is the conducting of business functions electronically in order to enhance an
organizations operations (Rainer p 30)
What is an example of digital economy/e-commerce? (+2 Points)
An example of digital economy/e-commerce is shopping online, using a metro card to
pay for public transportation.
Why is digital economy/e-commerce important? (+2 Points)
Digital economy/e-commerce is important because it expands interactions between
businesses and consumers, it connects buyers and sellers and expands businesses
capabilities of sales to virtually anyone anywhere at anytime.
What is the de0nifion of compefifive advantage? (+2 Points)
Is an advantage over competitors in some measure such as cost quality, or speed; leads
to control of a market and to larger than average profits (Rainer p 38)
What is an example of compefifive advantage? (+2 Points)
An example of competitive advantage would be buying something in a store or
ordering it from amazon. Amazon generally has its items priced slightly lower when
compared to most retailers.
Why is compefifive advantage important? (+2 Points)
Because it allows a company to control a market and make larger than average profits.
It also does not allow one business to monopolize an industry.

What is your support and/or refute for the topics of informafion systems, digital
economy/e-commerce, and compefifive advantage? (+2 Points)
Module Three (+20 Points)
What is the de0nifion of Ethics? (+2 Points)
Ethics relates to general standards of right and wrong. (Rainer p 36)
What is an example of Ethics? (+2 Points)
