INFORMATION COMPETENCY
I think that by me joining Restaurant Facility Management Association would be beneficial to me
because I want to become a regional manager for a large restaurant franchise, then eventually become
VP Director of Operations. So joining this organization they provide a strong partnership that is invested
in your success, promotes professional and ethical standards to serve customers with an added value. I
believe this organization will help improve my skills because RFMA created a certification program to
improve abilities and demonstrate commitment to achieve excellence in the restaurant industry. All the
things they offer will help maintain and improve skills because of the programs that they have in place.
Ex: Certification programs, online learning centers (prep exams), It has resource library that archives
pervious educational sessions to review and learn from. It’ll help critique my management skills as well
as show me how to become a better management leader and increase my promotion success rate.
When creating a portfolio adding certain things to help develop a social network is crucial to
having a professional network. For my portfolio I would be adding certifications and awards that I have
received over the years from former education and employers. Degrees from schools, Work history with
dates of employment as well as when promotion dates and titles.
Social Media will give employers your information when searching through online databases to
find potential employees. So you need to be mindful of what your social media network looks like. You
want to make sure with everything being a social media network in todays society that what you put out
there publicly a potential employer won’t be offended by what he/she sees.
I’m not really sure what sites are out there for professional networking. When I started looking
for jobs, you went to the place and filled out an application. This online stuff is still new to me, but I did
some research and asked some people and I was given 2 recommendations to use for getting my
professional resume out there.
1. Linkedin – it provides numerous useful tools for young professionals.
2. Youtuern – it gives you tools to creating a successful resume as well as giving you tips on getting
potential employers attention through your online portfolio.
