Informal Fallacies Assignment
1. Slippery Slope
I found this slippery slope while watching a direct TV commercial.
The narrator of the commercial went on to list a bunch of unlikely chain of
reactions that would occur if you didn’t switch to direct TV.
“When your cable goes out you get stressed. When you get stressed you need
to get away. When you get away you go for something exotic. When you go
for something exotic, you get bitten by something exotic. When you get bitten
by something exotic, you swell up. When things swell up you can’t go home.
And when you can’t go home you become a local fisherman they call big fatty
fat face. Don’t become a local fisherman they call big fatty fat face. Get rid of
cable and upgrade to Direct TV “
2. Hasty Generalization
I found this hasty generalization in a Covergirl Ad where Ellen Degeneres
draws a conclusion about the foundation without sufficient evidence.
“Hey wrinkle face. That’s what people could say if you still use a liquid
foundation that’ll settle into your lines and wrinkles making you look older.
