MAJOR FORCES THAT TRANSFORM CULTURE IN BUSINESS 2
Culture, which covers the sum total of what a team or business has gained in terms of mitigating
organizational issues for survival and internal cohesion, defines the character and personality of a
group. In most cases, organizations have a history that has shaped their functions, which is
demonstrated by values and behavioral norms, such as tact. Their articulation is guided by a
business leader who has internalized the history of his or her organization (Bock, Zmud, Kim, &
Lee, 2005). To put it differently, leaders shape the culture of a business based on behavioral
manifestations, feelings, perceptions, and convictions, be it conscious or otherwise. Under such
circumstances, major forces exist that can be leveraged to transform a culture in a business
environment.
According to Chapter 10, leaders are ready to use several primary mechanisms to embed
culture in the organizations they manage. For instance, the way leaders react to key incidents
such as organizational crises and the elements they measure and control reflect their convictions
(Schein & Schein, 2016). It also appears that the inherent need to impart a culture in a business
drives leaders to deliberate teaching, coaching, and role modeling for the people under their
leadership umbrella (Schein & Schein, 2016). Furthermore, beliefs and values are pivotal to the
success of the business; hence, the allocation of resources, rewards, and status and the
promotion, recruitment, and excommunication of employees reflect these elements of the culture
