Individual Essay-Hilton
Hilton Worldwide Holdings Inc is an international hospitality and lodging company that
manages a wide array of hotels and resorts. Founded by Conrad Hilton in 1919. Hilton
Worldwide Holdings Inc is ranked number one on Fortunes magazine’s list of top 100 best
companies to work for. This organization earned this ranking by developing a strong
organizational culture, a well-grounded organizational structure and definitive values.
Hilton’s mission statement as reflected by the Hilton website is “To be the most
hospitable company in the world by creating heartfelt experiences for Guests, meaningful
opportunities for Team Members, high value for Owners and a positive impact in our
communities” (Hilton.com). Hiltons mission statement is broad in terms but directly reflects
Hiltons core corporate social responsibility focus which is both environmental and social. On
Hilton’s website they outline what impact they would like their organization to have on
society/world. They state that “They foster inclusive growth by enabling everyone to participate
in and benefit from travel. They contribute their time, skills and resources to building capacity
and resilience in their destinations, and they are committed to fostering respect for human rights
for all(Hilton.com). They also state that “They seek to operate and grow sustainably, reducing
their consumption of natural resources. They are committed to fighting climate change, and they
are proud to have set carbon reduction targets aligned with the Paris Climate Agreement
(Hilton.com). Hiltons CSR focus has provided yet another incentive to keep customers,
stakeholders, and shareholders invested.
Hilton’s CSR focus comes from a multitude of sources. Hilton believes that their focus
on social and environmental impact will help them remain competitive within the hospitality
industry as well as allow them to make a positive impact on society/world. Hilton conducted a
survey that further supported their claim that having a strong CSR focus will make consumers
happy. “According to a survey of 72,000 Hilton guests, social, environmental and ethical
considerations are central to their buying preferences, especially those younger than 25 years old.
The six-day survey was conducted in May 2018 and asked travelers if they research a hotel
company’s environmental and social efforts (Newsroom.com). In response to this survey and in
accordance with their CSR focus Hilton “announced it will cut its environmental footprint in half
