Brief Background on Country and Issue:-
India which is also known as the “Republic of India” is the 2nd most populated country
in the world and it is also the 7th largest country. India is divided into 6 regions which are
Central India, East India, North India, Northeast India South India and lastly Western India.
Besides, India also has 28 states and 8 union territories which also includes the national
capital territory and the capital of India is New Dehli. A partial statehood have been given to 3
countries which are Dehli, Jammu and Kashmir. According to the Article 343 of the Indian
Constitution, the official language of India is Hindi and English. Moreover, they do not have a
national language in India.
The Himalayas which is known as hima, “snow” and alaya, “abode” according to the
Sanskrit words. The Himalayas is the world’s highest mountain system which forms the
northern restriction in India. The arc of the young mountain is about 2500 kilometres long and
the width stretches from the peak of Nanga Parbat (Pakistan) up to Namcha Barwa (China).
India falls in between these two peaks. The Indian Himalayan Region (IHR) crosses about 11
states in India and union territories which are Ladakh, Uttarakhand, Arunachal Pradesh,
Nagaland, Mizoram, Meghalaya, West Bengal, Jammu and Kashmir, Sikkim, Manipur, Assam,
Himachal Pradesh and Tripura.
The Indian Himalayas is split into 3 longitudinal belts which are Lesser, Outer and
