Inclusion versus Segregation:
Of Children with special needs in Canadian Classrooms
The purpose of this paper is to provide further research that inclusion in Canadian
classrooms outweighs the benefits for children with disabilities in segregated classrooms. To gain
a deeper understanding it is imperative to clarify the definition and identify the benefits and
disadvantages of inclusion and segregation in Canadian classrooms. Inclusion is an effective way
to change how children, educators and adults say or do to make children with disabilities feel
belonged and accepted in a classroom. Segregation is removing a disabled child out of its
environment and being placed in a setting with other children with similar disabilities. This paper
will further indicate the benefits and disadvantages of inclusion and segregation by comparing
