The Incas were very religious people. They believe in many gods, so they are
polytheistic. Their main 6 gods were Viracocha, Inti, Illapa, Mama Quilla, Pachammama,
and Supay. They believe that the god Viracocha created the earth stars, and all living things
on earth. The god of the sun, Inti, was also an important god. One Of the Incas, Sapa Inca,
was the son of the sun a direct decedent of the sun. When the son of the sun died he was
supposedly returned to the sun. Illapa, he was the god of rain, thunder, lightning, and war.
Mama Quilla, was the moon god and sister wife to Inta, she was also the goddess of marriage
and defender of women. Quilla was an important god, but unique because most of the
important gods were primarily related to nature, but she had nothing to do with nature. The
Incans believed that Quilla has shed tears of silver, and during the lunar eclipse they had
believed she was being swallowed up by a puma. They would pound their drums and blow
their horns to try and stop the eclipse. Pachamama was the goddess of the earth or “mother
studied to become either a priestess or the secondary wife of a Nobel.
