Brief history of company
Introducing BraveDogs! BraveDogs is a new non-profit organization that has been
founded September 2, 2017. Our company plans on being a non-profit organization with all the
funds being put back into the company to help support the animals we bring in The organization
offers many different services that dog owners or future dog owners, can appreciate. These
services include but are not limited to, dog rentals, daycare for dogs, and also a home for stray
dogs that have nowhere else to go. These services will be primarily offered to the student body
of the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. However, the BraveDogs’ organization is very
optimistic and hopes to expand their business services pending the early success of the company.
The role of this new company is simply to provide a much needed service that will make our
community a much better place to live.
BraveDogs will operate as a non-profit organization, meaning that we will pursue our
organizational goals without the intention of distributing excess revenue to management or other
executive positions. The organization will receive all of its funding through donations, grants,
and contributions. We will not only seek funding by the State of North Carolina, we will also ask
Uncp alumni if they wish to donate funds. Our business will generate revenue through puppy
rentals, adoptions, and also offer day care services. We believe the community will recognize
the benefit of having puppies to play with at any time. Being located close to the University of
North Carolina at Pembroke’s campus, we believe that BraveDogs will create a strong brand
association with the university by making meaningful contributions to the University’s merit and
academic goals. BraveDogs intends on being highly involved in the day to day lives of the
students at Uncp, we believe our service will enhance students’ performance in class and raise
the level of interest in attending Uncp.

Statement of the Problem
There are many problems that this new company will address. One of these problems is
the increasing amounts of stray animals that roam the streets of Pembroke, dogs in particular.
These dogs live in absolutely horrible conditions that affect not only their appearance, but also
their health. This is also a growing problem for the community itself. Strays roam the
community with no place to find refuge; this creates a problem for the community. Many times
they end up getting hit by traffic or causing problems with other pets. BraveDogs will cut down
on the number of insurance claims in the area pertaining to accidents involving collisions with
stray dogs. The area will also not have to deal with the costs of having to clean up these
accidents. The Pembroke community doesn’t need random dogs running around all over town
with no owners or no home. This makes the town look bad, simply because stray dogs are not
sanitary. Our company will provide a place for these dogs to go. With help from the
community, we will offer training and rehabilitation programs for these animals.
Another problem that Brave Dogs addresses is the need for a dog day care. In so many
cases, dog owners are forced to leave their beloved pets at home with no supervision while they
go out to work or class every day. We believe that this day care will be a huge asset to dog
owners, given that it will be a huge stress reliever for them. BraveDogs will provide a safe and
fun place where these owners can bring their beloved animals, while having the peace of mind
that their furry loved one will be cared for. This daycare will account for 75 percent of our
annual revenue, as we feel that many people will take advantage of this great service.
Lastly, one of the biggest attractions that the BraveDog organization will offer is a pet
rental and adoption service. This service will allow on campus students and local community
members to rent household pets by the hour, adopt, or simply spend quality time the animals

within our own facilities. This program came about through the growing studies that affirm that
owning or having contact with an animal can reduce stress. In a 2001 study, researchers found
that high blood pressure patients can keep their pressure down by owning a pet
(Allen,Shykoff,Izzo). Also, in an article about Harvard Medical School it discusses how a
therapist at Harvard uses a small dog as a stress reliever. The dog in the study was made
available for any student who wished to be a part of the study. These medical students would
come and would have contact with this dog depending on their situation (Junge,MacDonald).
We, as an organization, have taken this information into account and would like to use it in the
same way to help students reduce stress and other issues that they might have.
Scope
The proposal of this start-up company BraveDogs, is to allow students to interact with
dogs on campus for stressful times in the semester. The option of also being able to ultimately
adopt these dogs is also available. The purpose of this company is to not only become an outlet
to students but also create a place of rehabilitation for stray dogs looking for a safe space. The
strategy is to construct a new facility that is within reach of the company’s target market, which
are students on the campus of UNCP. BraveDogs will be a very accessible program that also
allows customers the choice of leaving personal pets at our location for a certain period of time.
Some students may only need to leave their pets with us for a couple hours, but we will also
allow students to leave their dogs with us for an entire day if needed. The cost to the student will
vary depending on the amount of time the student needs to leave their dog with us. Students will
be charged at a discounted rate for all the services we offer. All dogs will be provided the
necessary shots and training before we give students the opportunity to rent them. BraveDogs
will go out to meet with local rescue shelters and adoption agencies to receive insight on how to
BraveDogs
start up and discuss document requirements. BraveDogs will be in need of a contracting
company who can build us a building that will be able to hold adequate living accommodations
for our dogs. Within the building we will need a reception room where all business transactions
can occur. The facility must also have a living space big enough to accommodate each dog. Also
our company will require enough outside space to allow dogs a place to run and exercise. The
company believes that Braves Dog is a sustainable organization that will be able to thrive on the
campus of a university because we understand how important dogs are to students and people in
the surrounding community. There will be an evaluation period before allowing prospective
adopters to adopt a dog, we will see how the customers interact with the animal they are trying to
adopt before going through the official paperwork. The ultimate purpose of this organization is
to not only allow students and local customers the chance to have emotional support, but it also
