Importance of the Plays: Fences
During the course of this semester, we have read and studied about drama and all it encompasses.
We were able to read four specific plays, in which I thoroughly enjoyed very much. I can honestly say
that if I would not have taken the course, I probably would have never read any of the plays that we were
assigned. All four plays were unique in their own ways and offered different views about diverse themes
of life. Each drama also seemed as though it had a lesson to teach the audience; specific to each play.
During the semester, we had the privilege of reading: Oedipus the King, Othello, the Moor of Venice, A
Doll’s House, and Fences. Each of the four plays had different themes and messages to convey to the
reader. Although I enjoyed reading each of the four dramas, I believe Fences seemed to be the most
important drama that we were able to read during the semester.
Fences appears to be the most important play out of the four because it is easily relatable to real
life. Unlike some of the other plays that we read, such as Oedipus the King and Othello, the Moor of
Venice, Fences created a real-life scenario that could actually take place. For example, in Oedipus the
