Perhaps you will agree that the first year in Dominican Republic for new immigrants is the
most difficult; it is when they most need help and support.
You could take the opportunity here to talk to Dominican people, learn a few new things,
and get to know what life is like for them. You’ve always been free, but freedom feels
different now. Now that you’ve given up every comfort and made it work thousands of
miles away from home… you feel like you’re capable of anything. And After conducting
an interview with The Russian lady, we can understand how the immigrants see Dominican
Republic in their first year.
Every beginning is hard especially if you have moved to another country that differs in
everything; ranging from the language to the culture. However; the difficulty would be less
if you traveled a lot between countries and witness diverse between different cultures. It
has often been referred to as a global “melting pot” due to its assimilation of diverse
cultures, nationalities, and ethnicities. The culture in Latin America in general is absolutely
different in everything starting from food and clothing ending to managing time. The
people here are irresponsible or ’in other words’ when someone told you he would finish
something immediately, so he would need at least 2 hours to finish it up.
Sometime, Santo Domingo isn’t in our plan when we are looking to a place to travel and
live in. but when you forced to choose it it’s not the best nor the worst.
Moving to Santo Domingo has two sides in my point of view; In one hand, you will see the
amazing natural spots and beaches like a paradise that thing you can’t see in your city, The
other thing regarding the people, is that the people here enjoy life as much as they can,
always saying hello, smile, ready to help. Those things are the best that any immigrants
can find. In the other hand, living here isn’t safe; you always have to be careful especially
at night.
There are many difficulties that the new immigrants face; Basically adjusting to a totally
different culture. There were language barriers, prejudiced from other groups that had
immigrated years earlier. Finding work, housing, a place to practice their religious beliefs,
