Illegal Immigration
Introduction and Background Information
Immigration is one of the most challenging issues facing the developed world in
modern times. Debated revolve around whether the West (as well as other advanced nations
of the world) are obligated to ensure that voluntary or forced asylum seekers are easily and
legally accommodated there. Being a sociological and legal conundrum, the predicament of
illegal immigrants has taken up significant attention of policy makers and commentators in
most of the European, American, and Asian nations. This has been fanned by recent events in
which potential questions were raised about the treatment of alleged illegal immigrants in
those nations. Understandably, the direct issues emanating from the debate on immigration
laws and practices has continued to ail the world at present times. Nonetheless, there exist
feasible solutions to the perennial problem of illegal immigrations from legal, humanitarian,
and social perspectives.
Current Events on Illegal Immigration
In the modern times, the mass media as well as the popular culture have striven to
popularize the endeavors of Australia to rid the country of illegal immigrants, predominantly
travelling from volatile locations in Asia and elsewhere. Asylum seekers originating from
Syria and Iraq have continued to report their challenges in attempting to resettle in Australia
in a bid to avert the military and humanitarian conflicts in their countries of birth. While
commentators have unequivocally condemned the country’s decision to retain such refugees

maintain the country’s traditional stand on illegal immigrants attempting to access the
nation’s boundaries (O’Doherty & Lecouteur, 2007). The controversial debate has since
assumed a global platform. Similarly, the European Union faced the conundrum of

immigration a couple of years ago. The economic block, faced with an unprecedented influx
of illegal immigrants mostly from North Africa, was forced to adopt an approach which has
sat well with humanitarian advocates and commentators (Orrenious & Zavodny, 2016). Since
the most accessible route for reaching the European continent from North Africa commonly
involves tortuous voyages through the Mediterranean Sea, the issue of illegal immigrations in
Europe is often intertwined with the issues of death and mass casualties at sea (Orrenious &
Zavodny, 2016).
Besides these cases in Australia and Europe, the predicament of illegal immigration
has become most pronounced in the United States. The current regime has seemingly made
the issue a breathing policy to retain relevance and social correctness. In the previous one
week, even the White House has come under scrutiny for comments which were made by the
