Video Assignment Analysis
The nature of the universe in “Our loss of wisdom” led by Barry Schwartz is that
practical wisdom is a necessity for individuals that should be instilled in all of us to be wise and
make wise decisions. From the Ted Talk video, Schwartz recites a moving quote from Aristotle,
“Practical wisdom is the combination of moral will and moral skill.” Humans can be blessed with
great knowledge but does not mean knowledge is the key to success. As Schwartz said, a wise
person “is made not born. Wisdom depends on experience, and not just any experience. You
need the time to get to know the people you are serving. You need permission to be allowed to
improvise, to try new things, to occasionally fail, and to learn from you failures. And you need
to be mentored by wise teachers. It takes lots of experience, to learn how to care for people.”
As wisdom is a characteristic we are not born with, practical wisdom must be taught. Being an

ourselves. There is nothing wrong in being a book worm, needing to apply it in an application is

sense and seek the non-ordinary and be able to leap and make a difference without being told.
Best example used in the video, Barry Schwartz discusses about a janitor who took the extra
leap to mop a room for a child who was in a coma. Being in coma, not knowing your
surrounding and already having someone to come take care of you without any help. That’s
called respect! Schwartz even said, “behavior like this from janitors, from technicians, from
nurses and, if we’re lucky now and then, from doctors, doesn’t just make people feel a little
better, actually improves the quality of patient care and enables hospitals to run well.”
The nature of human happiness in “Our loss of wisdom” led by Barry Schwartz is that for
