Introduction
IEP Book Summary
Anyone working in special education knows that the language involved can be
overwhelming to anyone who is not used to speaking in acronyms, or what anyone is talking
about when they start saying accomms, mods, and outcomes. The language in Special Education
is universal however, it is the same no matter what age group they are working with, or what
state they work in. In this paper I will explain this language through the different chapters
beginning with Chapter 5 Accommodations, Modifications, Assessments and Services on the
IEP. In Chapter 6 LRE or Least Restrictive Environment I will explain what it means, and the
impact it will have on the teachers and students involved. Next, I will discuss in Chapter 7 how
the transition plan will help find the best way to use accomms, mods, assessments, services and
how it will help with deciding the LRE for the student and their steps towards their future. Then,
I will explain in Chapter 8 how all of this will go onto the IEP that the teachers need to use to
