The given table gives information on the IELTS Academic average band scores for students in
2003 from five language groups in both Asia and Europe.
Generally speaking, the overall scores of all listed groups were over 6.0. While Hindi
students gained the highest band scores on average, students from Russia scored the
lowest.
In terms of listening, students whose language were Hindi had the highest average band
scores at 6.78. Following was Russian and Malayalam speaking groups (6.31 and 6.35).
Students from Spanish group were the lowest scorers with only 6.27 on average. However,
reading score of Spanish students was the highest. Malayalam and Russian students scored
the same, which was 6.13 and was also the lowest.
In writing and speaking skills, Hindi topped the average band scores of all groups with 6.62
and 6.86, respectively. Meanwhile, the Spanish speaking group gained the lowest points in
both writing and speaking.
