Idols of the Tribe
An idol is an image that is held in the mind, which receives respect, but is without matter.
Francis Bacon is a well known theorist who is famous for his four idols of the min in which he
introduces them in Book I of the New Organon. These are distinguishing errors, natural
tendencies, or defects that plague the mind and keep it from achieving a full and precise
understanding of nature. There are four distinguished headings in which Francis Bacon called
idols. He made them well-known as idols of the tribe, idols of the cave, idols of the theatre, and
