Subject: Feasibility Report on Using Movable ICU at Al-Haykal Tripoli Hospital

After we analyzed the feasibility of using Movable ICU at Al-Haykal Tripoli Hospital, we are

pleased to present the following feasibility report entitled Intensive Care Units At Al-Haykal

Hospital: Feasibility Report that summarizes our 10 weeks research.

Since its establishment, Al-Haykal Tripoli Hospital faced problems due to the limited number

of ICU beds relative to the number of admitted patients. In the past two years, the hospital

managers are working hard to solve this problem, so we believe that our report will be taken

in to consideration in order to provide the appropriate medical treatment to all the patients

admitted to this hospital.

Our project was based on 10 online resources, 5 interviews and meetings with experts in

medical and biomedical engineering and a survey conducted with the staff of the hospital. We

adopted a research methodology that included 4 different stages: (1) Develop Evaluation

Criteria, (2) Gather information on smart ICU beds, (3) Study the Hospital’s need in terms of

ICU, and (4) Interview Experts.

After discussing the results of our research, we recommended at the end of this report the

following actions:

 collaboration with Social and Cultural Development Association (INMA) NGO to

have access to medical technologies and equipment.

 conduct workshops for patients’ families to aware them on the importance of the

availability of enough number of ICU beds.

 consider the smart ICU beds as an essential technology to improve medical treatment

in Lebanon.

Abstract

The purpose of this report is to study the feasibility of using Movable ICU as the main

solution for solving the problem of limited number of ICU beds at Al-Haykal Tripoli

Hospital. After analyzing other medical/technological options, we argue in this report that the

best way to provide enough number of ICU beds for patients is using the movable ICU. Our

research plan was based on 10 online resources, 5 interviews and meetings with experts in

medical and biomedical engineering and a survey conducted with the staff of the hospital. We

adopted a research methodology that included 4 different stages: (1) Develop Evaluation

Criteria, (2) Gather information on smart ICU beds, (3) Study the Hospital’s need in terms of

ICU, and (4) Interview Experts. From our research, we designed a new ICU department

based on the implementation of smart ICU beds. We then chose another solution and

analyzed both suggestions according to a criterion we set. We observed the results and

concluded which of the two solutions is more feasible to implement. We later recommended

a plan to test the solution and analyze the results.
