I Have News For You

This poem, “I Have News For You”, by Tony Hoagland, touched me in a
way that no other poem ever has. I have never been a huge fan of poetry,
but reading this poem gave my mind a bit of clarity. The poem vividly
showed imagery, set a tone, and used similes. This poem compares di!erent
types of people in this world: depressed and happy. It talks about people and
how they may view the world based on di!erent things that they see.
There is lots of imagery in this poem. Imagery is “language that
embodies an appeal to a physical sense, usually sight, although the words
may invoke sound, smell, taste, and touch as well.” (Literature: The Human
Experience pg, 1405) This poem uses many di!erent versions of imagery,
but my favorite is “there are people who do not see a broken playground
