I can’t believe we’re out of butter
America is the richest country in the world. A free market economy has given everyone
here the chance to success, and has made America the target nation for many of the world’s
immigrants. Even with the global economy in the sink, Europe collapsing, and wars across
the world, America is managing to stay on its two front feet to try and dig our way out of
our soaring debt and outrageous unemployment. While we do many things wrong, labeled
as “fat” and “lazy” Americans, we also do many things right. Our capitalistic society has
no doubt increased our standard of living over the course of many years. Without the
ability to enter the market at any time we wish, whether we are supporting a brand we
love, or creating a new product, our economy would be nothing. While there are many real
problems in the world, it seems that today’s media and friends try to focus on what are the
juiciest, most gossipy topics in America.
Lately in the media it seems that all we are talking about is the upcoming presidential race.
Who did Herman Cain sleep with? Who owned a piece of land with a racist name? Or who
had the most ex-wives? However, there are still problems in Europe that just can’t be
ignored. Of course, I’m talking about Norway’s serious butter shortage. Christmas without
buttery snacks seems like something that would come out of a Christmas story gone
wrong. But that actually may be the case for many sad Norwegians. According to NPR
